I agree about the potatoes in particular. Any rule as generic as "avoid all white foods" will inherently be wrong very often. I would be interested in your take on the high GI crash that can occur, even with potatoes, if the high GI food is not mixed in with something to cause a more sustained glucose load in the bloodstream. Can we eat potatoes alone and not get this crash effect a couple of hours later?

Yeah, surely if we eat anything with high GI ONLY, not potatoes in particular, then we are in danger of having blood sugar "spike and crash" syndrome. When we do have this high GI crash, we tend to crave for more food and overeat. So as to avoid this, we can eat moderate amount of high GI food (like potatoes) AND mixed them with low-GI food and high-fiber foods like vegetables to slow down the sugar rush.

How about fiber pills or protein bars or shakes with high GI stuff? Is that as effective as foods with high fiber or protein?

Hi Kurt, thanks for your comments... I don't really use fiber pills and stopped taking protein shakes. As much as possible, I get all the protein I need from meat and dairy products (low-fat milk). I think there's no real substitute for natural food. I eat naturally and choose what I eat, but train or exercise hard.

Its true, I would eat meat + diary over protein powder any day, however protein shakes offer convenience and if your in a hurry then you cant beat whipping up a quick protein shake and necking it down.
